Helping those in need

Holy Family Parish Outreach, within the context of Parish Life, serves in the delivery of support for persons in need regardless of religious beliefs. Various Parish groups and individual parishioners offer help and love to and with the neighbors of the Parish community as well as within the Parish itself by assisting in relieving the suffering of the economically poor and those poor in spirit.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Holy Family's Prayer Shawl Ministry is composed of a group of volunteers who knit or crochet shawls which are blessed by the Parish priests. Recipients are encouraged to "wrap" themselves in the shawls, both for warmth and to remind them that the shawl is a work of love and an assurance of prayer. Shawls are available to be given to anyone who would receive comfort from them.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a worldwide Christian voluntary community of lay men and women within a giving team located at Holy Family. The vocation of the Society's members, who are called Vincentians, is to follow Christ through service to those in need and so bear witness to His compassionate and liberating love. Members show their commitment through person-to-person contact. No work of charity is foreign to the Society. It includes any form of help that alleviates suffering or deprivation and promotes human dignity. Vincentians strive to seek out and find those in need and the forgotten, the victims of exclusion or adversity. Vincentians pray that the Holy Spirit may guide them during their visits and make them channels for the peace and joy of Christ.

Ministry to the Homebound & Visitation Ministry to Nursing/Convalescent Residences

The purpose of Holy Family's Ministry to the Homebound is to bring a little bit of the Parish faith community to persons who miss coming to church. Homebound Ministers hope to bring the presence of Jesus to the person(s) they visit by spending time with the homebound person and/or family on a regular basis, preferably weekly. Eucharist may be given, prayer offered, or perhaps a meal shared. Homebound Ministers becomes a special friend to the person being visited and their family.

One-on-one visitation is provided to Catholic residents living in area nursing and convalescent homes. The visits provide an opportunity for Parish priests and other parishioners to express the love and concern of the Holy Family faith community. Sharing the Eucharist and offering words of encouragement and prayer to the persons in residence are the primary purposes of each visit.

Parish-wide Charity

There are many ways, some grand and some humble, to serve. Parishioners at  Holy Family regularly gather food for Our Neighbor's Table; put in many hours preparing Holiday Baskets; support the needy with a festive Giving Tree; fill Rice Bowls with cash; volunteer in countless ways throughout the greater Amesbury community; and much more. The cry for assistance and charity is heard loud and clear at Holy Family, and answered as best as possible in a Christlike manner.
