Devoutness, holiness, piousness, religiousness

Holy Family intends to foster spirituality through a variety of ways by which parishioners and others may develop a deeper spiritual relationship with the three persons in God: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

For men and women

Catholic Book Club

Jesus is the Eternal Word, God, One with the Father and the Holy Spirit. While the Catholic Faith holds Sacred Scipture in the highest esteem as the living Word of God, many authors have inspired Christians through literary works that speak of God, the Catholic Faith, religious experiences and various other elements of Christian life and lives. With that in mind, a literary-minded parishioner group gathers the fourth Thursday of each month to engage in insightful discussion from a Catholic perspective on the selected book of the month.

Charismatic Prayer Group

The Holy Family Charismatic Prayer Group gathers weekly to give praise, thanks, honor, and love to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Gathered in the power of prayer, the Group gives their full attention to Jesus  individually through the prayer community as the Holy Spirit moves them. Seeking the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit: Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge, Counsel, Piety, Fortitude, and Fear of the Lord, the Charismatics strive also  for the spiritual gifts of tongues and prophesy so that the Church may be built up.

Prayer meetings are held weekly on Thursday at 7PM during the academic year and on Mondays at 7PM: May, June, July & August. Please note: there is a call for Musicians.

Little Rock Scripture Study

Little Rock Scripture Study is designed to bring parishioners to a greater understanding of the Bible, an awareness of God's living presence in Sacred Scripture, and an appreciation of how the Bible can be applied to one's daily life; as such, it:
  • Helps one to read, study, and live the Word of God.
  • Encourages one to grow in personal knowledge of God.
  • Helps one experience a greater sense of Christian community.
  • Teaches one Roman Catholic biblical scholarship.

Based on four complimentary elements, the program combines daily personal study, weekly small group sharing, wrap-up lectures and prayer in its approach to helping parishioners gain a fuller understanding of the Word of God.

Check the Parish Calendar, Bulletin and/or Parish News for schedules and subjects.

Ultreya

Ultreya is a Spanish word meaning "to persevere".  A school-year monthly gathering of Cursillistas open to anyone, Ultreya celebrates and encourages the piety, study and action necessary to cultivate and persevere in living and sharing one's Christian faith. A Cursillista is someone who has participated in a Cursillo de Christianidad, Spanish for a short course in Christianity.

Ultreya at Holy Family brings together the Men's and Women's Reunion Groups; and  generally consists of a Mass with virtuous homily, followed by a gathering in the Parish Hall for a spiritual talk (given by a lay person), group prayer and sharing, fellowship, singing, snacks, and joy in the Lord.

Small Christian Communities

Small Christian Communities (face-to-face gatherings of 5-9 people who invest time with one another for the common purpose of applying Gospel values to every aspect of their lives)  have been instruments of spiritual renewal and growth, reconciliation, and friendship throughout Holy Family especially during and since the three-year ARISE Together in Christ Program which concluded in 2010.  Several informal groups in the tradition of ARISE continue to meet to foster  spiritual renewal in the Catholic tradition, i.e. encounter God in everyday life, deepen and share their faith, and connect their faith with action.

Using materials from Renew International or otherwise, these groups meet and pray together periodically in the homes of parishioner hosts.

When you look at the inner workings of electrical things, you see wires. Until the current passes through them, there will be no light. That wire is you and me. The current is God. We have the power to let the current pass through us, use us, to produce the light of the world, Jesus, in us. Or we can refuse to be used and allow darkness to spread.
