Deacon Ray was born in Fall River, MA where he attended grammar school in his home parish of Saints Peter & Paul. He graduated from S.M.U. (now UMass Dartmouth) with a B.S. degree in Textile Technology and a minor in Business Administration. Deacon Ray and his wife, Paulette, moved to Amesbury in 1969 to engage in industry and engender a family; they quickly became active members of Sacred Heart Parish.  As Holy Family evolved during the transition of Sacred Heart and St. Joseph and thereafter, Ray's fervor and resolve for Christian stewardship grew.

After raising his two daughters with Paulette and with a continuing increase in his leadership role within the Parish, guided by the Holy Spirit, Ray took the steps for a diaconate journey; and was ordained as a deacon in 2004 by Archbishop O'Malley of the Boston Archdiocese. Deacon Ray has been assigned to Holy Family Parish ever since.
